Belize

My first thought when we got to Belize was confusion. Having spent 10 months in Spanish-speaking countries we had entered a country in the British Commonwealth where English is widespread. We both are so used to addressing people in Spanish that it felt odd to talk in English in a country that is surrounded by other Spanish speaking nations.

Belize has a lot of cool attractions like caves and Mayan ruins, but we just spent a lot of time in the water in the small town of Hopkins in the south and Caye Caulker in the north. Hopkins had great water and so-so beaches and Caye Caulker had amazingly clear water with no beaches. Everyone just jumped off the docks.

We also spent a day snorkeling the second largest barrier reef in the world and swimming with sting rays and nurse sharks. This would have been a really great time to have a GoPro…
